After more than a week since election day, the Republican Party gained the 218 seats they needed to win the majority of the house. While the win was far narrower than expected, the GOP still celebrated the victory. This Republican majority ensures that the party will have a veto on President Biden’s agenda for the next two years. The victory was confirmed after the result of California Representative Mike Garcia. However, the election disappointed Republicans, who were expecting a red wave to hit Congress. This result ushers in an era of divided government.

The Senate has been split 50-50, with the runoff election between Democratic Representative Raphael Warnock and Republican Representative Herschel Walker in Georgia as the deciding race for the majority in the Senate.
