On July 4th, a gunman entered Highland Park, killing 7, and leaving multiple injured or wounded. 21-year-old Robert Crimo III is the prime suspect in the shooting and has been taken into custody. He faces 7 charges of first-degree murder, with multiple charges of attempted murder to come soon. Eric Rinehart, the attorney of Lake County has stated that he plans to seek life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.

Evidence of firearms was found on the roof of a business close to where the shooting occurred. Authorities has asumed that the gunman used the ladder attached to the wall in order to access the roof, where he fired over 70 rounds with a rifle similar to an AR-15.

The shooting has been marked as one of over 300 mass shootings in the US so far this year.
