Earlier this morning on the northbound side of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, about 40 undocumented families and their allies blocked traffic on the bridge in a call for Congress to provide a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants. The protests, which occurred after the US Senate Parliamentarian excluded immigration reform from the $3.5 trillion reconciliation bill, urged Democrats to override the ruling.
The blockage, organized by the Bay Area Coalition for Economic Justice and Citizenship for All, planned on stopping commuters for 20 minutes to represent the “20 years of broken promises” on the issue. They called out President Biden, Vice President Harris, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and other top Democrats to use their power. Five people were arrested by the California Highway Police, also known as the CHP, but protesters say that it was the only way for them to be heard after having done everything else they could.
