Novak Djokovic, the world-renowned tennis player, has been deported from Australia after authorities revoked his visa for a second time.
Djokovic had successfully challenged the court’s ruling the first time they revoked his visa due to being unvaccinated. However, Australian minister Alex Hawke warned that they could re-cancel it, which he did.
After admitting to certain activities he partook in despite covid regulations, a surge of angry Australians and fans began to rise, whilst support for Djokovic drastically decreased.
There has been much public anger in Australia due to the unvaccinated player not following guidelines as the federal government asserts that it is a duty to follow these strict laws to reduce harm and collateral damage caused by COVID-19 and that no one is ‘above the law’.
Djokovic accepted the ruling with disappointment and has left on a flight to Dubai, unable to play in the Australian Open.
