On June, 24th, 2022 the court case Roe V Wade was overturned by the Supreme Court with a vote of 5-4. The case provided rights for women to choose to have abortions, protecting themselves from risky pregnancies. With the Supreme Court being more conservative than liberal due to Trump’s presidency, some say this was bound to happen. Without these rights women are stripped of the right to choose, creating a fear of becoming pregnant.
After the morning of the tragic overturning, protests filled the streets with angered men and women about this matter, and on the opposite side were conservative crowds cheering. Planned Parenthoods have been stripped of their operations, during that morning staff ushered to do as many abortions before they were instructed to stop. The ruling could possibly be the beginning of even more overturning’s including gay marriage where couples are starting to fear for their freedom.
Abortion laws have always been challenged as a result of Conservative opinion and Liberal opinion, with the right believing in pro life biased ideas, indicating that abortion is murder while the left believing in pro choice ideas, which are backed up by Roe V Wade. This split between ideas creates an even more split between political parties, and due to the bombarding of the political cabinet with republicans after president Trump’s presidency, new laws are more likely to lean right. Justice Clarence Thomas, a republican justice on the supreme court, floated this idea of the overturning of Roe V Wade and eventually gained the support of the other conservative justices in which they outvote the democratic justices. In an unprecedented future without Roe V Wade, America can be turned back to what it was 50 years ago.
