In northeastern Thailand on Thursday, October 6th, a former police officer stormed a daycare center and started a shooting spree that killed at least 36 people, including at least 24 children.
Pandya Kamrab, a 34-year-old former police officer, stormed into the Na Klang neighborhood daycare facility where his son was enrolled just before 1:00 pm. After that, according to district official Jidapa Boonsom, Kamrab entered a locked room where children were sleeping and stabbed them with a knife. Then, before escaping in a white car, he killed individuals, almost all of them little children. According to the authorities, Kamrab was dismissed from the police force in June after being found in possession of amphetamines. After the assault, he killed his wife and their 3-year-old kid, barricaded himself inside, and committed suicide—police report at least ten additional injuries, including six critical injuries. Nong Bua Lamphu, where the murder occurred, is primarily agricultural and has one of the worst poverty rates in Thailand.
In-depth details on the attack, which was the deadliest of its kind in Thailand's history, were revealed during the time of an event that will remain in history as a nightmare for the country.
