The Ukraine and Russia conflict has flared up again as 100,000 Russian troops are seen moving closer into Ukraine in recent weeks.

Russia’s President, Vladimir Putin, accused the US of trying to provoke war between Russia and Ukraine, and stated his firm assumption that America’s goal was to use confrontation as an

ostensible reason to impose ‘desirable’ sanctions on Russia, as it seemed that the US was not concerned with Ukraine’s security but indeed containing Russia’s development, whilst also ignoring Russia’s concerns on the expansion of NATO.

President Joe Biden, however, accuses Russia of attempting to invade Ukraine despite Russia’s constant denial of this. The US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that they were "committed to preventing a conflict that is in no one's interest".

This was exacerbated by the alleged confidential documents sent by NATO and the US to Russia stating a negotiation where they have talks on cutting back on nuclear weaponry and partaking in trust-building measures in hopes that it would reduce the tensions in Ukraine. These are, again, alleged, and haven’t been commented on by NATO or any other parties involved as of yet.

All of these events have stemmed 8 years after the bloodied rebellion supported by Russia in the eastern Donbas region of Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that war in Ukraine would not just affect the two countries at the heart of the battle, but in fact, the whole of Europe.

As accusations and assumptions of Russia’s invasion, the USA’s intentions, and Ukraine’s circumstances arise, we await further conversations and actions to assist the uncovering of new information and how this can potentially impact the whole of the West.
