Uvalde Shooting

by Hailey Lau

On Tuesday, May 24th, an 18-year-old gunman entered Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, taking the lives of 2 teachers and 19 children.

The gunman entered at 11:33 am. It took 78 minutes to stop him. During this time, police waited in the hallway starting at 11:35, with parents showing up at the scene at 11:54. One student in room 112 repeatedly called 911 starting at 12:03 to try and get assistance, with officers eventually moving her, and other children in the classroom, outside safely at 12:51.

New investigations have found information regarding Instagram posts made by the shooter, dating back to as early as March 14, captioned "10 more days.” He legally purchased 2 AR platform rifles after turning 18, on May 17 and May 20. On the day of the shooting, the shooter also sent a Facebook message to an online friend in Germany about his plans to shoot his grandmother.

At least eight mass shootings have taken place since last Tuesday, with eight people killed and 45 injured in the five days after Uvalde. They took place in Pennsylvania, Alabama, Michigan, Tennessee, Colorado, California, Florida, Illinois, and Oklahoma.
